Heather Macey is a Director and Trustee at Makower Architects. She shares leadership responsibilities with Tim Makower, guiding the firm’s strategic vision and day-to-day operations. Prior to this, Heather ran the residential studio at John McAslan and Partners as director, as well as the initiatives studio which developed pro-bono research projects for social value.
Heather oversees a wide range of projects across public and private sectors, including masterplans, mixed-use developments, commercial, cultural, and residential schemes. She has extensive experience in the adaptive reuse of culturally significant spaces, such as historic buildings and markets, with a particular focus on design that supports health and community resilience.
Heather’s socially driven, context-led design approach has been recognised with innovation awards for sustainable design and urban health, including the Salus Future Projects Award.
She has taught and lectured at numerous UK schools of architecture, and is a founding member of Architects Aware! and Homestead – initiatives pioneering alternative approaches to homelessness and mental health.
