Matthew has over 25 years international experience in major complex projects, with a particular focus on workplace and mixed-use developments, and has led Grimshaw studios overseas in Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur. He is now based in Grimshaw’s London studio where he plays an integral part of the practice’s expanding commercial and mixed-use portfolio across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia, and leads the practice’s research into Design for Manufacturing (DfMA) and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).

 Matthew has been Project Director for several large-scale workplace projects, including; the award-winning Olderfleet project at 477 Collins Street (Deloitte’s new Australian HQ), a $300m, 50,000 sqm Premium Grade office tower in Melbourne’s CBD and Grimshaw’s tallest building to date, sitting at just under 200m, and 664 Collins Street, a campus style development of two buildings constructed directly over the rail environment at Southern Cross Station. He is currently leading two innovative workplace developments targeting Net Zero Carbon in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
 
His work as Design Lead of the Construction Innovation Hub from 2019-2022, working in collaboration with Buro Happold, BAM construction, Mott Macdonald and Akerlof,  an Innovate UK funded Research project investigating the use of Manufactured Platform Construction systems across the UK Government social infrastructure pipeline, culminated in the launch of the new Platform Rulebook in September 2022, a new guide for industry on the use of DFMA and applying Manufactured learning to the construction sector. Matthew is delivering innovative design solutions addressing deliverability, sustainability, and social impact across a number of projects including the St William Bath Gasworks project which adopts MMC in the delivery of over 600 homes in a highly sensitive Ecological and UNESCO heritage location.  
 
Prior to joining Grimshaw, Matthew was a Director of Squire and Partners in London (1999-2008), leading many of their central London workplace and residential developments, both new build and adaptive re-use.
