Nigel is an architectural historian with a Doctorate from Reading University.

He joined English Heritage in 2001 originally in the SE region advising on new development and the regeneration of historic areas before moving to London to take up the role of Head of Partnerships. A particular interest in new development in historic contexts led him to work with CABE on a project to transform the joint Building in Context Guidance into a practical training toolkit for those involved in development management. Nigel was recently appointed Historic England’s Planning Director for London responsible for the delivery of its expert advice across the capital.
