Philip was elected Mayor of Hackney in September 2016, after serving as Cabinet Member for Housing for three years. 
 
Philip has driven Hackney Council’s pioneering house building programme, which is building almost 2,000 homes, three new schools and a leisure centre on over 20 sites between 2018 and 2022. As Mayor, he has delivered the borough’s first Hackney Living Rent homes, and more than 2,000 homes with partners at Woodberry Down. He is also Chair of London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee, which includes responsibility for Climate Change.
