Sir Michael is Chairman of the English Cities Fund, SQW Ltd and a former Chairman of the BBC.

He is a strategic adviser to CBRE and a non-executive director of Redrow. He recently chaired the Housing Commission established by Ed Miliband. A distinguished public service career included 17 years running some of the country's largest local authorities (including Birmingham City Council 1994-2001).
