Vicky Thornton
A versatile architect who has worked on a wide range of projects, Vicky has a particular focus on leading teams in gaining planning consent for projects on challenging and complex sites. Her projects range from new office buildings to hotels to university masterplans.

Vicky led the design team for the Chelsea College of Arts, forming a new campus for the university within the existing Grade II listed buildings of the former Royal Army Medical College on London’s Millbank. Her direction on the striking multi-storey car park for Addenbrooke’s hospital won an RIBA Award in 2015, one of the first buildings within an overall masterplan for the Cambridge Biomedical Campus which she continues her involvement with. She also lead our work with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN), to develop a masterplan for its Preston campus which has progressed through the construction of four of its initial new buildings within the framework. More recently, she has directed more specialised buildings such as the South Hampstead Synagogue in north London. She is leading on the design of the Triangle, an office and hotel development in Hammersmith, and the extension of a railside warehouse in Shoreditch to create a new hotel.

She is one of our two Diversity Champions, actively contributing to the practice’s involvement in Women in Architecture. Her passion for ceramics and vintage textiles has been shared with the office at fundraising events for charities.

Vicky trained at Manchester School of Architecture and the Bartlett. She has also lectured at the University of Kent and been a visiting tutor at the London Metropolitan University.
