Both having evolved from late 18th century academic, medical and artistic institutional roots, this walk examines recent large and smaller-scale institutional, residential and office developments. To the west, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands’ two-acre plus work/live development Pearson Square on the site of the former Middlesex Hospital is fast redefining Fitzrovia’s historic quirkiness in sparkling new open-for-business settings. To the east, around Bloomsbury’s old squares, key new building and landscape developments by Grimshaw Architects, Hopkins Architects and others capitalise on the global success of UCL and are fast reconfiguring the whole area.
