What do we mean when we talk about inclusive design, and why does it matter?
Inclusive design is about creating places, spaces and environments that can be used, enjoyed and experienced by as many people as possible. Rather than seeing accessibility and inclusion as constraints, inclusive design challenges us to view them as opportunities for creativity and innovation.
This Coffee Conversation will explore what inclusive design means in practice across the built environment. Following a short presentation on the GLA’s
Designing with Disabled Experience report, participants will be invited to bring a live project, design challenge or constraint they are currently grappling with. The group will explore different ways of approaching these challenges through an inclusive design lens, drawing on diverse experiences, broad perspectives and an abundance mindset. Rather than asking ‘how do we fix the problem?’, the conversation will focus on ‘what becomes possible when we design for inclusion?’. The session will provide a space for collaborative problem solving, fresh thinking and shared learning across disciplines.
Pre-meeting preparation:
Please come prepared with a real design challenge or constraint from a current project in mind. Whether it's a tight budget, a complex site, competing priorities or a question you're struggling to answer, we'll use the group's collective expertise to explore approaches through an inclusive design lens.
Please note this is a hybrid event. If you would like to join the conversation as an online attendee, registration details will be shared with all attendees ahead of the event.
