New London Architecture

NLA Walking Tour – Canary Wharf

Tour

Wednesday 12 February 2025
10:30 - 12:30

Explore the key buildings and parks in Canary Wharf, including the newly arrived Elizabeth Line and Foster + Partners and Gillespies rooftop
Originally a financial centre to rival the City of London, the Canary Wharf now expands much beyond commerce. It is a socially integrated district where people work, live and play.

West India Quay’s row of converted warehouses is the sole reminder of the area’s original 18th-century hand-built walled dock. A floating pedestrian bridge, (Future Systems), links the Quay to the Wharf, where buildings include Gensler’s Columbus Courtyard offices, the first to open in the area, and Newfoundland Quay (Horden Cherry Lee), one of the first residential towers inside the Canary Wharf Group boundary.
Key locations we’ll explore also include the Landmark Pinnacle (Squire and Partners), Bank Street office (KPF) and One Canada Square (Cesar Pelli). Alongside the new urban district Wood Wharf, with its Floating Pavilions (Glen Howells), new pedestrian infrastructure and two new landmark residence towers - 10 Park Drive (Stanton Williams) and One Park Drive (Herzog de Meuron) - the start of a brand new 23-acre new community.
