In an ever-denser city, the provision of open, free and accessible public spaces is a vital element. The Mayor of London has proposed a Public London Charter to be published alongside the new London Plan, in order to specify the rights and responsibilities of users, owners and managers of public spaces.
A wide range of professionals, from architects to urban designers, are involved in the design of public spaces, but who is ultimately in charge of planning, delivering and preserving high quality public spaces? And how can we ensure places remain accessible to the public?
From historical cases and contemporary examples of public spaces to the proposed Public London Charter, this evening talk presents the challenges and successes in designing, delivering and maintaining public spaces in London.
