The art of zero waste: can temporary exhibitions be sustainable?

Talk

Thursday 14 April 2022
08:30 - 09:30

Are temporary exhibitions sustainable? This breakfast talk, hosted by Grimshaw Architects, challenges the sustainable and circular nature of short-term exhibitions and installations by examining the existing zero waste strategies in use implemented by galleries, museums and festivals in London.
The built environment industries are responding to the climate crisis by decreasing their carbon footprint to meet the governments net zero targets by 2050 with London setting an even further ambition of becoming net zero by 2030. How has the cultural sector responded to the net zero agenda post COP26, and what long-term strategies are museums, galleries, curators and designers implementing to make sure the creative industries are meeting those same targets? Can temporary exhibitions, installations and pop ups remain a sustainable format in the journey to net zero?
