New London Architecture

CLOSED: FitLondon

Start: 28 June 2014 - 00:00
End: 25 July 2014 - 00:00

The Bldg Centre, 26 Store St, London WC1E 7BT, UK

This NLA exhibition is an adaptation of the travelling exhibition, FitNation, kindly donated to us by the American Institute of Architects and the Centre for Active Design in New York.
FitLondon celebrates design solutions to public health challenges and provides a platform for innovation in design around the world, with particular focus on London projects. It presents projects that exemplify architectural means, policy-driven and grassroots action, conceptual frameworks, and simple improvements which contribute to a healthier lifestyle for individuals and communities.

The exhibition installation, designed by Ramboll, will be complimented by contributions from a number of London based architects, engineers and students and will activate Store Street South Crescent for the exhibition's duration. FPARK from Fletcher Priest Architects reimagines the cobbled crescent, while Arup Associates have combined seating, obstacles and games in an interactive edge to the space. David Miller Architects in association with KLH UK and Corbett & Tasker Structural Engineering have provided seating and a pavilion designed by University of East London students will enable us to use the Store Street South Crescent as an events space and will be home to our mini programme, FITzrovia and Bloomsbury.

This exhibition will open with Store Street Sports Day on Saturday 28 June. A fun family day for the whole community!

This installation has been made possible by: Arup Associates; Corbett & Tasker Structural Engineering; Construction Products Association; David Miller Architects; Fletcher Priest; KLH UK;  London Borough of Camden; Ramboll; Remmers; Ryder Architecture; and the students of University of East London with Alex Scott-Whitby.Also, special thanks to our curatorial panel: Peter Murray, chairman, NLA; Malcolm Smith, Global Masterplanning and Urban Design Leader, Arup; Lewis Blackwell, Executive Director, The Building Centre; and J-J Lorraine, Director, Morrow+Lorraine.
