London has been named the winner of the 2026 Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, marking the first time the capital has received one of the world’s most respected global honours for urban development.

Established by Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority and the Centre for Liveable Cities, the Prize celebrates cities that are not only responding to today’s urban challenges but leading the way towards more resilient, inclusive and forward-looking urban growth.

In selecting London, the international jury highlighted the capital’s ability to continually reinvent itself while remaining dynamic, globally competitive and rooted in strong community values.

This was reflected in progress on air quality through the Ultra Low Emission Zone, major transport investment in the Elizabeth line, and a sustained commitment to inclusive public spaces and community-focused neighbourhoods. The city’s continued global leadership across sectors such as finance, artificial intelligence, life sciences and culture was also recognised.

As part of the selection process, the Nominating Committee visited The London Centre in October, where they were welcomed by NLA, City of London Corporation and Greater London Authority. Through a series of presentations and discussions, the delegation gained first-hand insight into the ambition, innovation and collaboration shaping London’s future – offering a powerful showcase of the capital at its best.

Nick McKeogh, Chief Executive, NLA, said:

“Winning the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize recognises not just individual projects, but the collective strength of London’s built environment sector. The capital continues to lead through innovation, strong public–private collaboration and a clear commitment to creating a city that works for everyone. Supporting that sits at the heart of NLA’s mission to shape better cities, and we were proud to play a part by hosting and presenting London’s ambition to the Nominating Committee.”
