New London Architecture

3 & 15 West Lane

Built

3 & 15 West Lane deliver 297 rooms within Wood Wharf, combining heritage-inspired architecture, playful interiors, and vibrant public realm to create a sustainable new urban quarter.

3 & 15 West Lane in Wood Wharf introduces a dynamic aparthotel alongside active ground-floor retail and diverse F&B spaces, redefining the district’s evolution from a commercial hub to a booming mixed-use neighbourhood and destination.

Located in ‘The Lanes’, the development establishes carfree streets, creating a lively pedestrian environment for a carefully curated selection of independent businesses.

The adjacent flexible public realm, designed for both programmed and everyday use, accommodating public markets, small performances, art installations, and casual interaction, further boosts footfall and creates a dynamic context for the project’s retail and hospitality offer.

The design reflects lost warehouse architecture, now re-instated as an important part of Canary Wharf’s heritage and legacy. Historically, the area was a series of basins, locks and docks built during the 19th century when London was a key port, and the Isle of Dogs was a focal point of Britain’s shipping industry. The facade is predominantly brick, with pre-cast concrete string courses, cills, lintels, and capitals.

As part of Vertus Edit, a pioneering aparthotel model, 297 flexible studio accommodations provide a vital hospitality solution for short and extended stays. Responding to the client’s ‘Fun and Flair’ brief, the interior design draws inspiration from Wes Anderson’s cinematic aesthetic to create joyful, characterful amenity spaces throughout. Apartments offer a calming retreat, with bespoke joinery, fully equipped kitchens, and smart bathroom suites that maximise space without
compromising comfort.

The aparthotel integrates inviting private dining rooms, co-working lounges, and residents’ terraces. These dynamic communal amenities enhance the guest experience, contributing to an adaptable and amenityrich living environment that extends the hospitality offer beyond the individual studio.

This integrated approach to urban regeneration not only delivers tangible social and economic value but also sets a compelling benchmark for comprehensive, people-centric urban design within London’s evolving cityscape.
