An ambitious 20-year regeneration of the Aberfeldy estate that will deliver 1,600 new homes alongside a town square, public park and a range of new facilities for local people.

Aberfeldy is bounded by the A12 and A13 which separate this ‘island’ from the rest of Poplar. Our original masterplan (outline approval in 2012) set out an urban village of 1,176 new homes and a linear park, connecting an existing primary school to community facilities within a biodiverse landscape.

The success of this masterplan saw it extended to include an adjoining estate and additional land parcels to deliver a further 1,600 homes, new shops, public realm, workspace and community facilities, with the radical re-purposing of the A12 vehicular underpass to create a pedestrian and cycle route to transform the connectivity of Poplar.

The masterplan has been crafted through extensive community engagement, led by local young people. Through detailed analysis of Aberfeldy with its residents, design workshops and creation of a manifesto using ZCD’s Youth, Opportunity, Power Toolkit, this ground-breaking, community-led masterplan places children’s independent movement as its design driver.
