The sustainable masterplan balances the natural landscape with the public realm, delivering spaces for people that promote ecology and biodiversity, while enhancing the site value.
The empty 3.5-hectare site forms part of the Urban Growth Centre in the City of Barrie, Ontario, and benefits from a waterfront location along its east side.
The masterplan takes a two-sided approach to the site. Firstly, we developed an active streetscape for Bradford Street, with an animated street wall and lobbies to benefit future pedestrians. Secondly, we enhanced the connection with the water’s edge, orientating the buildings and in particular the ground floor to ensure they contribute positively to the public realm.
The Toronto team worked together with the UK support brining in international best practice expertise to combine with the local planning and policy insight.
