Brent Cross Town

Planning Granted

Brent Cross Town is an 180-acre new park town, delivering 6,700 homes, retail, offices for 25,000 workers, and 50 acres of green parks and playing fields.

Claremont Park is an inclusive new urban park at Brent Cross Town, one of Europe’s largest net-zero carbon regeneration projects. Designed by Townshend Landscape Architects and HTA Design, the new park introduces an impressive range of spaces for play and recreation in the 180-acre new neighbourhood. The 4.5-acre park opened to the public in June 2022 prior to any of the 6,700 new homes being occupied. Over a 15+ year delivery period, this new neighbourhood, being delivered by Related Argent and Barnet Council, will also provide 3 million sq ft of workspace supported by a new high street, schools and a university set in 50-acres of parks and playing fields.

As the first of seven new or refurbished permanent parks for Brent Cross Town, the quality of Claremont Park reflects Related Argent’s ambition to support health and wellbeing. More than 300 trees have been planted, improving canopy cover and mitigating against the urban heat island effect. The park also boasts a rich tapestry of biodiverse, wildlife-attracting meadows, species-rich lawns, native aquatic planting, shade-friendly woodland planting and native hedges.

Claremont Park is designed for year-round use by people of all ages and abilities. Nature trails, water features and imaginative play facilities instil a sense of ownership and pride and a new community run kiosk serves as a focal point for people to meet. At its heart is Water Meadows Playground designed by Erect Architecture, with dynamic climbing structures and waterplay inspired by the local river Brent.

The park has already hosted an array of community-focused activities, ranging from music and sports sessions to a summer programme for young people and the #TimeTogether campaign, delivered in partnership with Women in Sport, encouraging mums and teenage daughters to access free exercise classes.

Councillor Barry Rawlings, Leader of Barnet Council: “In partnership with Related Argent we are delivering a new net zero carbon park town for the people of Barnet and beyond. The development is an excellent example of how we are putting sustainability and communities at the heart of everything the council does, future-proofing our borough, and safeguarding our environment for the generations to come.”

Dan Hawkins, Executive Headteacher, Childs Hill and Claremont Primary Federation: “As the Executive Headteacher of Childs Hill and Claremont Primary Federation I have a very good understanding of what it is like for children and families in the area. Affordable or even free activities are hard to find and parks are such an important resource for children and their parents to play, exercise, socialise and educate. In our area many of the parks have not been updated for a very long time and are sadly run down. The introduction of the park has been wonderful! The children at Claremont school talk as though a theme park has been opened up for them!”

This project is featured as a case study alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
