Dalston Plan

Proposed

Through the Dalston Plan, by Hackney Council, a vision and framework is set for the next 15 years, giving direction to how development and local spaces should evolve.

The Dalston Plan Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) provides a strategic framework to guide the long-term regeneration of Dalston Town Centre, ensuring development aligns with local needs and supports the town centre’s ongoing success.

Created to address current challenges and plan for the future, the SPD offers detailed, place specific planning guidance and highlights the importance of key assets such as Dalston Eastern Curve Garden and Ridley Road, and includes a comprehensive implementation plan which focuses on physical and social value driven outcomes.

The Plan has been shaped by a five-year community engagement process known as the ‘Dalston Conversation’ and was further refined through gathering social, economic and environmental evidence and through contributions of the Dalston Community Panel. It compliments Hackney’s Local Plan (LP33), which identifies Dalston as a Major Town Centre and a key area for growth.

The Dalston Plan groups into six important themes and provides a comprehensive spatial strategy that coordinates the future development of private and council owned sites, such as those on Ashwin Street, Dalston Lane and Kingsland Shopping Centre. It outlines objectives on building heights, site proposals and a clear delivery plan. The Plan draws on a range of Council-wide strategies and has been developed through close collaboration across services, aiming to benefit local communities, businesses and visitors.

By prioritising the area’s unique character, to deliver on six key themes:
- Greater access to nature and green, open space
- Sustainable transport options and high quality public realm
- High quality new buildings and affordable homes
- Supporting a vibrant and diverse town centre, with job opportunities
- Ensure Inclusivity & Safety in Dalston
- Support Cultural, Creative and community Well-being
