Hercules Street

A small infill development providing two 2-bed maisonettes

NEW LONDON AWARDS 2022

NEW LONDON AWARDS 2022

Shortlisted in the HOMES category

Hercules Street is a small infill development in Islington, providing two 2-bedroom maisonettes for private rent. The development brings a previously vacant site into use, bringing much-needed new housing to the neighbourhood, and enhancing the local streetscene with a building of the highest contemporary architectural quality.

Hercules Street makes new use of a previously derelict site on a key London thoroughfare. The scruffy ad hoc car park previously housed a substation, and several previous attempts to redevelop the site had failed. Nevertheless, PARTI were able to persuade planning officers that the site could be used for much-needed local housing and improve the built environment along Holloway Road.

Basic materials have been used in a thoughtful and refined way, allowing the building to be constructed to a relatively modest budget, while nevertheless creating a building that appears purposeful, ordered, clean and composed.

Vote for this project in the ‘People’s Choice Award’. The voting deadline is 1 November 2022.
