Creating large, light-filled rooms with clear views of the garden were the priority while refurbishing the poorly modernised 1920s house.  Removing the later additions allowed the house to be extended at the side and rear creating a double-fronted property. The challenge at the rear was to unite the house with the garden that was at a higher level. The lowered living area improves the views from the central kitchen. The increased height allowed for a sculptural façade to be created, drawing from the work of Paul Rudolph from the 1960s, and the insertion of a mezzanine overlooking the garden.
