The challenge while modernising a late Victorian house in the Muswell Hill Conservation Area was to maximise the floor area but keep the original bay window to the rear of the property. To achieve this, the ground floor extension is separated from the original house by a small courtyard enclosed by a frameless glazed screen. The 2.4m high curved glazing was designed to create a wider entrance into the new rear extension and create a modern version of the old bay. Together with the loft and first floor extensions, the floor area has been increased by 30 per cent.
