New London Architecture

Motion

Built

Motion is a new 300 home-development on Lea Bridge Road, a bold architectural ensemble uniting the lively townscape of Leyton with the Hackney Marshes and the Walthamstow Wetlands.

Motion is a 300 home-development in Waltham Forest. Sculptural, stylish and controlled, its expressive architecture is ranged across three sculptural towers which sit alongside two low-rise courtyard blocks rendered in dark brick. The towers’ aerodynamic look – is a conscious break with the New London Vernacular’s brick aesthetic.

Shortlisted in the HOUSING category
Located opposite Lea Bridge station on a plot previously occupied by ageing warehouses, Motion’s expressive architecture, which blends sleek lines with confident placemaking, combines 300 homes with a ground floor gym, office, shop and café as well as new squares and green spaces with informal play, including rooftop gardens and growing plots.
Motion heralds the borough’s commitment to transforming Leyton with design-led, needs-focused architecture. Two thirds of its studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, all with large terraces, some with two, are suitable for families.
