NEW LONDON AWARDS 2020

Winner in the WORKING category

Poplar Works is a new workplace for East London’s fashion economy, transforming under-used garages adjacent to the A12 into low-cost workshops, a public café, and manufacturing and training facilities

Poplar Works, a new home for East London’s fashion economy, was delivered by a partnership of Poplar HARCA, London College of Fashion, and The Trampery supported by the Mayor’s Good Growth Fund. Two rows of 100 under-used garages located on narrow strips of land under planted berms adjacent to the busy A12, have been transformed into 45 low-cost workshops and studios, a public café and events space, and manufacturing facilities offering enterprise support and training programmes. Abbott Road, serving adjacent housing but vulnerable to antisocial activity, has been made safe and active.
