Situated within the grand reimagining of the former Whiteley Department Store, Six Senses London marks the luxury lifestyle brand’s first entry into the UK market.
Situated within the grand reimagining of the former Whiteley Department Store, Six Senses London marks the luxury lifestyle brand’s first entry into the UK market, bringing its signature wellbeing-led philosophy to an urban setting. Positioned moments from Hyde Park, Six Senses London introduces 109 guest rooms and suites alongside 14 branded residences. Crowning the hotel, the Whiteley Suite, with its distinctive 125m2 roof terrace, offers the option to create a private floor. A ground-floor lobby, lounge bar, restaurant and a 2,300m² spa, featuring a 20-metre indoor swimming pool, further enhance the hotel’s luxury offering. Six Senses London also introduces the world’s first Six Senses Place - a social and wellness members’ club designed to foster restorative experiences.
The hotel forms part of Foster + Partners’ wider £1.5 billion redevelopment of the former Whiteleys Department Store - a one million sq ft mixed-use scheme incorporating 139 residences, retail, leisure and public amenities, contributing significantly to the ongoing regeneration of Queensway.
Working within Foster + Partners’ established architectural vision, EPR developed the hotel’s interior architecture, creating an intuitive layout that optimises the building for a luxury, hospitality destination. At the core of EPR’s vision was a layout that celebrates the existing grand staircase - once a defining feature of the original department store. Deconstructed, lengthened and rebuilt by hand, it now ascends three floors towards the glass-domed ceiling while the addition of a new staircase descending beneath the original provides a graceful entry to the spa.
Interiors by AvroKO, implemented by EPR, celebrate the grandeur of the building’s original iconic tenant. Borrowing from the heritage façade’s materiality and inspired by William Whiteley’s fascination with the Great Exhibition of 1851, the design combines classical detailing, Art Deco influences and contemporary interventions to deliver a layered, narrative-led guest experience rooted in history and craftsmanship.
