Southwark Inclusive Learning Service (SILS 3) is a new 'Pupil Referral Unit' school in Peckham, south London. The 11 to 14-year-old pupils are there for a number of reasons, typically because they have been excluded from, or have not been attending school. The aim of SILS 3 is to reintegrate students back into mainstream school. The design was based on observation, consultation and research into the life of a PRU, and the design factors that could benefit children and teachers. Our aim was to make a light, spacious and calm educational environment that would improve the life chances of the children – above all to make a cheerful and optimistic building.

Yomi Adewoye, Headteacher, said:

Our new building is an investment for the pupils who attend SILS, and also for the whole community. It shows our students that we value and care about them, and that’s a really crucial factor in their journey of self-worth. The building is having a profound impact on how we operate as a school.
