Spencer Courtyard is a development of five new dwellings created in a tight brownfield site in Finchley. The former disused timber yard preseented several difficult problems to overcome before a coherent scheme emerged. Surrounded and overlooked by a typical patchwork of properties from various eras, privacy for the new homes and the existing neighbours is integral to the plans. The solution was single storey courtyard style houses, the rooflines echoing the forms nearby. A major element is the green roofs which herald the sustainable ethos of the project.
