New London Architecture

super SATELLITE × NEX

Built

This project is a live prototype for how the ground floor of a major new development can support civic life — combining residencies, public events, independent businesses and community.

What began as a temporary space — a vacant unit, an injection of creativity and community — has started to ask bigger questions. About space. About learning. About what happens when collaboration becomes part of how places are made.

Located within New Acres — a major new development in Wandsworth Town with 1,000+ homes, 25 commercial units and expansive public realm — super SATELLITE × NEX was designed and curated by Kevin Haley Studio, in partnership with Legal & General and the Royal College of Art, a leading local creative school. It reimagines one ground floor unit as a public testbed — a constellation of civic, cultural and commercial uses embedded in the rhythm of a new neighbourhood.

The space brings together four components: – 404 Café, run by a New Acres resident, has become a social anchor for daily connection. It’s where run clubs and community life take root.
– Community Archive & Meeting Room, gathering stories and histories directly onto its shelves.
– Concept Space, where independent businesses test ideas for long-term tenancy.
– super SATELLITE, a civic-facing creative studio for RCA alumni, residents and local people.

It’s a space that proves learning doesn’t need walls. It can happen at street level — open, visible and part of daily life.

It’s been curated in response to place — shaped by context, open to conversation, and evolving with the people around it. Its raw, adaptable environment encourages experimentation and participation. It operates on a dual rhythm: fast (events, workshops) and slow (residencies, research).

Though time-limited, this meanwhile strategy is shaping what comes next. It’s not just filling space. It’s testing how public life can be designed live, with the community. Together.
