Shortlisted in the RETAIL AND HOSPITALITY category

The Londoner is a luxury urban resort in the heart of London. This 16-story project has been sensitively integrated into the historic urban fabric of famous entertainment district, Leicester Square.

As London’s first ‘Super-Boutique’ hotel, The Londoner is a vertical masterplan of interconnecting volumes, spaces and shafts of light. Woods Bagot was lead architect, working closely with The Edwardian Group, Arup and interior designers, Yabu Pushelberg.

Originally a 1930’s stage-theatre, the building has undergone several iterations to form the 350-room hotel. This is complemented by 2 underground Odeon cinemas, 6 restaurants and bars, a spa and wellness facility, meeting rooms, and one of London’s largest event spaces.

Two of the most significant elements of this project are the striking blue artwork façade, made up of over 15,000 terracotta tiles – and the fact that it is home to one of the world’s deepest habitable basements, making this a building feat of engineering.

Vote for this project in the ‘People’s Choice Award’. The voting deadline is 1 November 2022.
