Catja de Haas Architects refurbished and altered a Victorian terraced house by opening up the loft space while retaining and revealing the existing structure of the loft and roof where possible. The loft was converted into two new sleeping areas, both accessed from the room below, to increase the habitable space but with minimal impact on the structure and load of the house. Many of the existing elements of the house were kept to reduce waste and the two new loft spaces were simple structural solutions that provided innovative and flexible new spaces that can adapt for future living scenarios.
