Shortlisted in the HOUSING category

Warbank Crescent is a bright 36-unit social housing scheme. Situated on a once misused site between houses and the Green Belt, our scheme brings thoughtful design solutions that incorporate community, colour and most importantly, new affordable homes.

Following multiple neighbourhood engagement events, we created an informed and impactful new social housing ‘courtyard typology’. Plans centre the homes around shared outdoor space at ground level and roof terraces above. This focuses the aspect on private/ semi-private areas outside, rather than overlooking neighbouring gardens.

The move also orients the homes toward light with generous kitchen windows and a cleverly placed horizontal clerestory that runs the front elevation to welcome daylight. Outside, light is reflected and absorbed in the rich material palette of standing seam zinc and aluminium. Shadows and sunlight splay across the frontage, even rain shimmers to activate the façades and echoes the vibrancy of life inside.

Vote for this project in the ‘People’s Choice Award’. The voting deadline is 1 November 2022.
