The final stage of design and development for the industry is only the beginning of a buildings new life for residents. Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) provides crucial learnings on building performance and assesses residents satisfaction with living in their new homes. Findings can help industry to meet net zero targets and resident surveys can help provide a deeper understanding of residents experiences and what people value most in their homes and neighbourhoods. 

 

This enables the industry to make informed and strategic decisions about creating new homes and existing ones. The benefits of conducting POE studies such as this is clear, but how can the data and knowledge gained from these in-depth studies be more widely accessed by the industry as well as residents to make positive change? Post-occupancy evaluations could help create better, more sustainable and resilient buildings so why is the wider industry yet to fully embrace them? How is the policy landscape around POE set to evolve and will this help embed these studies into more projects?
