Cllr Stephen Alambritis MBE
Stephen Alambritis was leader of Merton Council  for over a decade from 2010 till 2020. In 2013 Merton was named by the Municipal Journal as the best achieving council in the UK.  During his time as leader Stephen put sporting facilities at the top of his  agenda leading to a new a new leisure centre and the return of AFC Wimbledon to his borough with a brand new stadium. Before politics Stephen was at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). Stephen is passionate about equalities and was a Commissioner at the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). Finally, Stephen officiated as a Class I Football Association Referee (before VAR).
