Dr Simon Hatherley is an architect and researcher with a specialism in sustainable design at UCL’s Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering. His current research is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership working with Allford Hall Monaghan and Morris to identify approaches for the design and delivery of large-scale, urban, net zero carbon development. The outputs of this research include a guide and toolkit for delivering large-scale net zero carbon buildings. As an architect Simon has undertaken projects for various clients including the Ministry of Defence, the House of Lords, the NHS and various private developers. His practitioner research work identified opportunities to reduce the carbon intensity of a new generation of Welsh schools developed through the Mutual Welsh Government Investment Model framework for Welsh Government. His PhD research, undertaken as part of the Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarship, examined development models for low carbon housing in rural areas of Wales.
