Ruth is an architect with 20 years’ experience in the construction industry. She has worked on a variety of projects ranging from a small co-housing residential scheme to the restoration of a heritage asset and several high-profile and complex commercial projects including the internal design for TfL Southwark over station development in London. Ruth moved to AHMM’s team of practice-wide technical advisors in 2022 and became AHMM’s in-house head of specifications in 2024. Ruth provides office-wide mentoring to all those writing specifications while directing the specification strategy across the practice, ensuring other design disciplines such as sustainability, CDM, fire and life safety and BIM are integrated into the process. She is a key member of AHMM’s QA review team, reviewing project documentation for compliance, technical interface and navigation.
Ruth is the author of AHMM’s Practice Design Responsibility Matrix which seeks to minimise ambiguity in design responsibility. Through external collaboration, Ruth benchmarks the template against industry feedback and risk analysis. This enables her to provide advice to teams on the appropriate allocation of design responsibility, education on the form of contract and how the procurement route affects the specification deliverable.
