New London Architecture

1FA: Listing and reinvigorating a modern classic

Talk

Friday 16 October 2020
10:00 - 11:00

1 Finsbury Avenue has been re-imagined by British Land and GIC, in collaboration with the City of London and Historic England.
Originally designed by Arup Associates, 1 Finsbury Avenue set the benchmark for a new era of commercial architecture when it opened in 1984. More than 30 years later, 1FA has been re-imagined.

Award-winning architects, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, have refurbished the building, retaining the building’s distinctive listed facade and transformed the ground floor into a lively public space, with cafes, restaurants and an Everyman cinema. The sensitive renewal of this modern classic ensures that it will continue to play an anchor role in Broadgate’s transformation as a place of connection, collaboration, inspiration and excitement.

A new book, by Kenneth Powell, details this journey and uncovers the building’s rich history. We would be delighted if you could join us for its virtual launch on 16 October on Zoom.
