London Borough of Barking & Dagenham and Be First
Barking and Dagenham is London’s Growth Opportunity and has embarked on a twenty year regeneration programme, the scope and ambition of which has not been seen in the Borough for over fifty years.
Growth will be focussed on a number of growth areas - Barking Town Centre, Barking Riverside, Dagenham Dock (including relocation of the City of London’s wholesale markets), Dagenham East (including London’s largest film studios for 25 years), Chadwell Heath and Beam Park. Barking Riverside alone has outline planning approval for 10,800 homes and growth proposals will collectively deliver a 25% increase in the Borough’s housing stock alongside having the highest birth rate in the country.
The Council is committed to ensuring that all major schemes are shaped from the outset by urban design-led masterplans applying the highest standards of sustainable development. It has established its own regeneration company, Be First, to facilitate and accelerate delivery over 50,000 new homes and 20,000 new jobs in the next 20 years.
The Council is committed to ensuring that all major schemes are shaped from the outset by urban design-led masterplans applying the highest standards of sustainable development. It is also committed to facilitating and accelerating delivery, not least through innovative partnering arrangements and delivery models.
