Children’s Community Garden - Chingford

Built

The Children’s Community Garden has transformed a patch of unused scrubland into a well-used small pocket park, becoming a vital space for young children to engage in the high street

Former derelict site used as a dumping ground in a prominent site on Chingford high street.
Project initiated by Love North Chingford community group, delivered with LB Waltham Forest.
Lease agreed with UKPN to transform into a Children’s Community Garden. Works included permeable materials resurfacing to tackle potential floods. Existing trees retained and community volunteers implemented a planting plan. Wooden animal statutes carved by Marshall Lambert and a mural by Wood Street Walls

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
