Our remodelling turned a holdout unit into the heart and soul of the building to create a piece of the public realm where the threshold between outside and in is blurred.

Shortlisted in the CONSERVING category
The remodelling of this Beaux-Arts former department store in Whitechapel turned the holdout unit into the heart and soul of the building rather than the thorn in its side. The 'Spiegelhalter void' has become the main entrance, effectively a piece of the public realm where the threshold between outside and in is blurred. Behind the facade the building was returned to its former grandeur, the upper levels unified into large, flexible workspaces, a blank canvas onto which new tenants can project their own identities.
