Ladywell Fields

Built

Ladywell Fields was an under-used and featureless park. A new river channel was created for the River Ravensbourne, providing a focus for the park and drawing people in.

Greening and the experience of green space:

A welcoming space has been created at the main entrance, providing views over the new landscape and aiding the sense of arrival. The former nature reserve, once fenced off and attracting litter, has now become part of the park – fully accessible to all, but specifically managed for biodiversity. In recent survey results, only 44% local people felt ‘safe’ or ‘very safe’ prior to the project taking place. Following the transformation, this had risen to 78%, demonstrating a positive impact on the wellbeing of the local community, as a result of the Ladywell Fields transformation.

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
