Shortlisted in the HOUSING category

WME8 comprises forty residential fronting onto the Regents Canal and opposite the distinctive Bethnal Green gasholders. Developed by Aitch Group, who Buckley Gray Yeoman has worked alongside for twenty years, the scheme increases the mix of residential and commercial uses along Andrews Road to create a desirable place to live and work in an evolving part of east London.

The design observes that the role of the Canal has evolved from a form of a transport to a lively destination in its own right and respects a series of locally listed cottages on Sheep Lane and buildings along Andrews Road with a stepped massing up to seven storeys. The building is formed of two overlapping forms with stepped heights on both sides that reach an apex on the corner of the site.

Vote for this project in the ‘People’s Choice Award’. The voting deadline is 1 November 2022.
