Tom Alexander, Director at Aukett Swanke and member of the NLA Expert Panel on Tall Buildings, sits down with NLA's Peter Murray to provide an update of the important work he is doing on industrial buildings in London. Alexander has focused on retaining industrial employment, looking at over 30 sites in London over the last four years to assess what needs to be done, and how mixed-use buildings could be the answer.

He says 'the logistics view needs to be broader, focusing on how London works and how it is going to work going forwards', this approach focuses on a hybrid model to balance everyone's needs which, he admits, in itself is challenging.

It needs a group of people sitting around the table who are willing to push the thing and make it work and overcome resistance gradually and scientifically.

This leads into a discussion about the 'long-life, loose fit' model and the idea of the '100 year building'.
