Nurturing the nocturnal city: supporting the nighttime economy

Talk

Tuesday 11 October 2022
18:30 - 19:30

This evening talk brings together experts to discuss the status of the nighttime economy and its potential to flourish once more.
How can we nurture the multitude of benefits that come from a thriving nighttime economy?

Research shows an estimate of 86,000 jobs were lost across the night-time sector during the pandemic, having a significant impact across theatres, nightclubs, leisure, and entertainment industries. The government extended the reduced VAT rate to 12.5% until the 31 March 2022 but calls to extend this legislation remain to allow the sector to recover.

Bold investment and long-term strategies are needed to return to pre-pandemic levels. How can we nurture the multitude of benefits that come from a thriving night time economy, and furthermore, how can councils, communities and businesses come together to support a diverse and inclusive nocturnal city and its workforce?

This evening talk brings together local authorities, government, and built environment experts to discuss the status of the nighttime economy and its potential to flourish once more.
