Project in Practice: Holbein Gardens

Webinar

Friday 27 October 2023
10:00 - 11:00

The team behind Holbein Gardens will collectively present the technical details behind this exemplar project selected from NLA report, ‘Circular London: building a renewable city’.
The NLA Report, ‘Circular London: Building a renewable city’, published earlier this year, highlights the need for retaining existing buildings, while making them more environmentally sustainable. In a circular economy, designing for maintenance, adaptability, and disassembly requires a holistic understanding of buildings and their material elements.

Holbein Gardens epitomizes these circular principles, retaining 93 per cent of the existing structure, a 1980s commercial building, and diverting 99 per cent of site waste from landfill. The project pioneers the direct reuse of structural steel in London. Where new design elements are added, careful and sparing selection of materials and initiatives to streamline their reuse and recycling are adopted.

This Project in Practice webinar brings together the team of client developers, architects, and engineers behind Holbein Gardens to deliver a detailed presentation on the processes and methods behind this exemplar project, guided by circular principles.
