As ULEZ expands, how can built environment stakeholders collaborate to deliver a London-wide active travel strategy?
In his Transport Strategy, the Mayor of London set out a target that by 2041, 80 per cent of all journeys will be made on foot, by cycle or using public transport. With the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) due to expand across London from August 29th, the connectivity between inner and outer London is increasingly important, and creating infrastructure and opportunity for active travel will be core to the strategy.
As part of TfL's Local Implementation Plan (LIP) funding, nearly £39m has been allocated to outer London boroughs and more than £24m to inner London boroughs. Beyond funding, how can we build collaborative partnerships and harness innovative technologies to accelerate and streamline the delivery of the active travel infrastructure?
TfL are trialling e-scooter rentals across participating boroughs, while the Alan Turing Institute are employing software and data science techniques to support local authority delivery of walking and cycling schemes.
Our Active Travel Summit brings together professionals from across the public and private sectors to give an update on London’s active travel priorities and share best practice. Following presentations, take part in a discussion on the challenges of delivering active travel for all Londoners.
We reserve a number of free tickets for active travel communities, associations and organisations. Please contact connie.hatt@nla.london if you would like to enquire about these spaces.
