Development in London’s Education, Healthcare and Innovation Buildings

This year-round programme brings together the built environment sector to shape the future of education, healthcare, and knowledge economy spaces. It explores best practices in design, sustainability, and community engagement, aiming to deliver modern, inclusive, and future-ready environments.

London sits at the heart of the Golden Triangle with Oxford and Cambridge, home to Europe’s largest biosciences cluster and five world-leading universities. As Innovation Districts across London and the Ox-Cam Arc expand, there is a growing need for accessible workspaces and labs to support high-quality research. In Healthcare, the focus is on creating connected blue and green spaces beyond NHS site boundaries to improve access and community wellbeing. Partnerships between healthcare and academia aim to enhance the skills of NHS Estates and Development teams, supporting the delivery of adaptable, workforce-friendly facilities. For Education, the challenge lies in addressing deteriorating school estates, managing a surplus of school places, and keeping public land in public ownership.

This NLA programme explores how places for education, healthcare and innovation can remain central to their communities, supporting global skills for innovation, lifelong learning and healthier, more inclusive urban environments.
